Genara is an independent gift store located in the Houston Heights. In addition to our brick & mortar shop we also maintain an online store, allowing us to host a loyal community of guests both on the local level and long distance. The curation of Genara focuses on independent makers and artists alongside respected and trusted heritage brands.

Genara is owned by Alicia and Kenton Gray; Alicia named the business after her grandmother because of the feeling her home imprinted on her memory: it was always a hospitable refuge and where Alicia learned how to be a warm, natural host. Our aim is to make our guests feel as at ease, comfortable, and welcome as everyone in that house felt.

Our shop is a special haven. We provide guests with a brief escape from their busy lives and allow them to indulge for a moment, finding something special that brightens their day and home. This is a peaceful retreat to explore and discover a pick-me-up. We have the luxury of being able to connect with guests one-on-one and enjoy getting to know our neighbors. We help find the perfect gift for loved ones, wrap it up beautifully and send guests off with a present they’re proud to share.

We seek a trustworthy, motivated, and reliable associate to help carry out our mission in allowing guests to find peace for themselves.

The most important part of this job is the warm, engaging way you interact with our guests. From greeting people who visit the shop to writing beautiful handwritten notes for online orders, your thoughtfulness and care will make Genara shine.

We need your artful eye as well because we infuse arts and crafts into many parts of our business, including gift wrapping and merchandising.

As an associate, you will assume the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Greeting and engaging with guests
  • Prioritizing aesthetics, from gift wrapping to merchandising
  • Practicing the art of selling
  • Deep cleaning
  • Packing orders
  • Receiving inventory
  • Accruing product knowledge

Genara is run by a small but mighty team. We want to empower you to take ownership of the shop when working independently. You will learn the ins and outs of working in retail, see how our collection is curated, and practice running a shop well. We will teach you the art of selling and how to meaningfully connect with our community - skills that will serve you beyond the walls of our little shop. We also offer a generous employee discount.

We ask that you commit to this role through the holiday season. We offer a holiday bonus at the end of December.
